Brightly variegated foliage is hot in a well-drained spot.

We've found several Cistus that seem to perform quite well in the landscape here at the JC Raulston Arboretum despite our regular rainfall and high humidity as long as we provide excellent drainage.  Cistus 'Mickie' nearly blinded us when we first saw it with the bright gold edged foliage around a soft green center.  The rough texture of the foliage reflects light in all directions making the plant sparkle in the sunlight.  Large white flowers open from reddish buds in spring and make it easy to see why this is often called rock rose.  Full sun is a must for this hot plant.
