20130520-063902.jpg This new redbud introduced by the JC Raulston Arboretum from the fantastic breeding program of Denny Werner hit the market in 2012. The addition of a weeping purple leaf redbud has been quickly embraced by the public. The arching branches bear heart-shaped leaves which emerge deep, glossy purple. The foliage becomes more muddy green as the heat of the summer hits. Redbuds are natural understory trees but this tree seems to grow equally well in full sun. Plants can be staked as either a low mound and allowed to cascade over walls and down hills or staked taller as a small tree. Newly planted trees often take up to 2 years in the ground before displaying their best color.
